The Foundry Overhead Crane is a lifting device specifically designed for the metallurgical industry’s high-temperature, heavy-duty, and frequent operation scenarios. It is mainly used in steelmaking and casting processes for handling molten metal ladles.

Compared with conventional double girder overhead cranes, it offers significant improvements in structural strength, heat resistance, and safety protection.

Key Features of the Foundry Overhead Crane

Adaptability to Extreme Environments

High-Temperature Protection
Critical components such as the main girder and trolley frame are equipped with thermal insulation layers (e.g., rock wool panels combined with high-temperature-resistant steel plates). Both the operator’s cabin and electrical room feature fully insulated structures, with cooling systems (typically industrial air conditioners) installed to ensure the safe operation of personnel and electrical equipment in high-temperature conditions.

Transmission components such as motors and gearboxes use high-temperature-resistant greases (temperature tolerance ≥ 200°C) and are fitted with forced air-cooling systems.

Load-Bearing Design
The wire ropes are made of heat-resistant steel-core wire ropes (either metal strand core or metallic rope core).

Pulley blocks on the hook assembly and lifting trolleys, as well as fixed pulleys on the trolley, adopt fully enclosed structures to perform reliably in high-dust environments. This design significantly extends component service life and reduces maintenance needs.

Comprehensive Safety Design

Hoisting Mechanism:
All motors are rated with Class H insulation and IP54 protection. Overspeed switches are installed on the main hoisting motor to ensure that in case of failure, the drum-end safety brake engages promptly.

High-speed shafts of the hoisting gearbox are equipped with two brakes on each end, and an additional safety disc brake is installed at one end of the drum.

The hoisting drum is of welded construction, and most pulleys are made of rolled steel.

For hoisting mechanisms using dual-drive systems, in the event of a motor or control system failure, the remaining drive system is designed to complete at least one full working cycle under the rated load.

Ladle-Specific Safety Features:
Anti-sway stabilizers and tilt sensors are incorporated to monitor the ladle’s horizontal position in real-time.

The hook assembly is made of forged steel or laminated plate hooks for enhanced strength and safety.

Technical Requirements for Core Components

Main Girder Structure

The main girder adopts a reinforced box-type design with a thermal insulation layer at the bottom to prevent deformation under high temperatures. All welding processes undergo ultrasonic testing (UT) and magnetic particle inspection (MT) to meet JB/T 5000.3 standards.

Power System

Specialized YZR or YZP series metallurgical motors are used, featuring Class H insulation and IP54 protection. The gearbox is a medium- or hardened-gear surface reducer, ensuring smooth and reliable transmission under heavy loads.

Compliance Certification

Ensure the crane complies with the Regulations on Safety Supervision of Special Equipment and has obtained the TSG special equipment manufacturing license. Design documents should also pass type testing.

Manufacturer Qualifications

Choose manufacturers with proven experience in metallurgical crane production and review their track record in the foundry industry.

Ease of Maintenance

Components in high-temperature environments are prone to wear. Look for designs that include maintenance platforms and lubrication systems (e.g., automatic centralized lubrication) to simplify upkeep.

Intelligent Upgrades

Consider optional features such as remote monitoring systems (e.g., PLC networking) and fault diagnosis modules to monitor equipment status in real time and prevent failures caused by extreme heat.
